The Fear Scale

Five levels. No guesswork.

Every event we list is rated from Flicker to Nightmare, so you know what you are walking into before you buy the ticket.

  1. 1 Flicker Any age Lanterns and atmosphere. Nothing jumps out.
  2. 2 Shiver Families Costumed characters and gentle theatrics. Fine for young children.
  3. 3 Chill Roughly 10+ Live actors and real jump scares, but performative rather than hostile.
  4. 4 Dread Teens and up Proper scare mazes. Sustained tension, actors in your space, strobes and fog.
  5. 5 Nightmare Adults The big scream parks. Long, loud, relentless and built for grown-ups.

The old Halloween

Before the pumpkin, there was the turnip.

The first jack-o’-lanterns were carved from turnips, swedes and mangelwurzels in Ireland, Scotland and the West Country — and they were far more frightening than anything cut from a pumpkin. That is why our lantern is purple on top. Halloween is older, stranger and more British than you think.
